ISLAMABAD: On Wednesday, Fawad Chaudhry, a former federal minister, pleaded with the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to restore its standing by awarding 41 seats in the National Assembly to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), his former party.
“The Election Commission needs to restore its reputation and take decisive action. During his presentation at the commission’s Islamabad offices today, he declared, “Give 41 seats to PTI.”
The former PTI lawmaker showed up at the ECP for the hearing of the contempt case brought against him and PTI founder Imran Khan. The hearing was presided over by a four-member panel chaired by Nisar Durrani.
They were found in contempt by the electoral body in August 2022 for derogating the commission and its head in a number of public gatherings, press conferences, and interviews in July 2022.Politicians are accused of making unparliamentary, impolite, and demeaning comments against the ECP on multiple occasions, according to the notice.
Once more, Chaudhry apologized to the election watchdog after Khan and he were both accused of contempt for making fun of Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja and the ECP.
