ISLAMABAD: The caretaker government’s claims of addressing the fiscal side were exposed when the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) reported a revenue shortfall of Rs33 billion in February 2024.
According to The News, the tax officials only collected Rs681 billion against a target of Rs714 billion.
However, the FBR claims that it met the tax collection target for the first eight months (July-Feb) of the current fiscal year.
In a post on X, the FBR claimed that it has exceeded its eight-month objective of Rs5,829 billion, representing a 30% increase.
The FBR collected Rs681 billion in February 2024, up 32% from Rs519 billion in February 2023.
This is the second consecutive month that the FBR has failed to achieve its monthly revenue collection target.
The shortfall increased in February 2024 when Finance Minister Dr. Shamshad Akhtar put in all-out efforts to restructure the board.
