This summer at Wimbledon, the 23-year-old Scot won a set against the seven-time past champion in a three-hour duel on Center Court that electrified the home crowd.
Since graduating from Texas Christian University, Fearnley has, however, won three Challenger titles. In the most recent Challenger victory, he overcame a set down to defeat home favorite Quentin Halys in Rennes this month.
Currently sitting at 126 in the ATP rankings, he has risen 520 spots since January and is getting close to reaching a significant milestone.
“To be in the situation I’m in, three months after leaving college, is pretty spectacular,” he stated to Scotland.
Fearnley’s year would not be crowned even if he were to join the century club. Nor would any of the outstanding victories at the Challenger level that he celebrated in Rennes, France, and Nottingham, Lincoln, USA.
The most admirable thing he accomplished in 2024 was forcing a 24-time Grand Slam victor to work extremely hard to get into the third round of Wimbledon.
