Pakistan’s security forces killed five Indian backed terrorists during an intelligence based operation in Balochistan’s Kohlu district, the Inter Services Public Relations said on Friday.
According to ISPR, the operation took place on December 25 after confirmed intelligence reports about the presence of Fitna al Khawarij terrorists in the area. Security forces moved in and surrounded the location.
During the operation, troops engaged the terrorists, which led to a heavy exchange of fire. All five terrorists were killed on the spot.
ISPR stated that the militants were involved in several terrorist activities in the region. Security forces recovered weapons, ammunition, and explosive material from the site.
After the operation, a sanitization sweep was carried out to make sure no other terrorists were hiding in the area. ISPR said such actions are part of Pakistan’s wider counterterrorism strategy.
The military added that the campaign under Azm e Istehkam will continue at full pace. Security forces and law enforcement agencies remain committed to eliminating foreign sponsored terrorism from the country.
This operation came one day after another successful intelligence based operation in Balochistan’s Kalat district. On December 24, security forces killed eight terrorists during a separate encounter.
Pakistan has seen a sharp rise in terrorist attacks, especially in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, since the Taliban took control of Afghanistan in 2021.
Islamabad has repeatedly urged Kabul to stop terrorist groups from using Afghan soil to carry out attacks inside Pakistan. Cross border terrorism has also caused tensions between the two countries.
Earlier this month, Pakistan issued a formal demarche to the Afghan Taliban over continued support for Tehreek e Taliban Pakistan. The Foreign Office also summoned the Afghan deputy head of mission on December 19.
