In order to prevent fatalities, authorities evacuated about 94,000 people from riverine (katcha) regions on Thursday when a strong flood surge carrying 300,000 cusecs of water entered the Guddu Barrage.
Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon told the reporters at the Flood Emergency Control Room in Karachi that while the fear of a “super flood” had been temporarily avoided, the situation was still dire.
He attested to the safe relocation of 94,795 people from Katcha localities over the previous 24 hours.
“At this time, artificial cuts or breaches are not necessary, but low-lying settlements may still be impacted if circumstances change,” he said.
