The floods that have been plaguing Pakistan since June are alarmingly similar to the floods that ravaged the nation in 2022, with millions of people homeless and almost a thousand dead. There are a lot of questions as the nation struggles to stay afloat amid the escalating floodwaters. Would it have been possible to limit the harm thus far? What role has climate change played? Has India’s floodwater release, about which it had issued a warning, made its lower riparian neighbor’s loss and destruction worse? Did poor leadership or a lack of preparation cause the floods?
