Oscar-nominated actress Florence Pugh has shared her evolving perspective on working with intimacy coordinators. Speaking on The Louis Theroux Podcast, Pugh highlighted both the benefits and challenges of having professionals on set to manage intimate scenes.
She explained that intimacy coordinators aren’t meant to complicate or interfere but to ensure everyone feels comfortable and that scenes have genuine meaning. “It’s about making sure everybody is happy with what they’re creating,” she said.
Reflecting on her past experiences, Pugh noted, “I’ve had good ones and bad ones. I did many of my intimate scenes before this role even existed. I’m confident and comfortable in my skin, and I’ve always spoken up. But there were times when directions felt completely inappropriate.”
The Oppenheimer star added that her perspective is evolving as the profession grows. “Now, I’m having fantastic experiences with intimacy coordinators. That said, I’ve also had awkward experiences where someone’s approach didn’t help at all. It’s still a role that’s learning and defining itself,” she explained.
Pugh’s candid insights highlight the ongoing journey of intimacy coordination in Hollywood, emphasizing the balance between professionalism and creativity on set.
