KHYBER: The Torkham border crossing between Pakistan and Afghanistan has reopened for pedestrian traffic following a four-hour shutdown due to a conflict between the Frontier Corps (FC) and the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), according to security sources on Sunday.
Earlier, sources told Geo News that the NADRA point at the Torkham border crossing was closed following a confrontation over immigration issues, leaving several persons attempting to cross into Afghanistan caught in the middle.
However, following a brief suspension of traffic, the crossing was reopened.
According to government sources, the disagreement between the FC and the FIA was over crowd management at the border; nevertheless, higher-level officials from both organizations quickly settled the problem.
They stated that law enforcement officials strive to comply with legal standards in order to prevent the movement of terrorists or illegal immigrants, and that crowding heightens the possibility of such an unfortunate circumstance.
Earlier, hospital officials reported that five people were hurt in the scuffle and were taken to Landi Kotal Hospital. Their condition was not in jeopardy, they added.
