In relation to her lead role in the upcoming Netflix series Griselda, Sofia Vergara spoke candidly.
The 51 year-old actress made the statements during the show’s Miami premiere. Sofia discussed the difficulties she had in becoming the drug lord in an interview with PEOPLE.
“I had to really research what it meant to be a woman in that age, which required a lot of work and preparation. A Colombian woman, a mother, who transformed into this monstrosity. Thus, I found it to be a rather challenging assignment to understand,” she said.
The former member of Modern Family claimed that even with the difficult character, she was still able to transform herself into Griselda by considering “the similarities she shares with her.”
“We have similar backgrounds—we are both immigrants from Colombia, mothers, and women. So I could really relate to her,” she remarked.
Five wigs were used in Sofia’s physical makeover to represent several timelines, as her hairstylist Kelly Kline and makeup artist Todd McIntosh previously disclosed in an old interview.
They made her fake teeth, nose, and eyebrows in addition to prosthetics.
She had become Griselda by the time she exited her makeup trailer. And that’s the reason Sofia is so flawless,” co-creator Eric Newman stated.
