During Newcastle’s 3-2 loss at Old Trafford, Gordon looked to be caught by Manchester United’s Sofyan Amrabat, but he did not receive a penalty in the first half.
At the time, Newcastle was down 1-0. On-field referee Rob Jones declined to award a spot-kick, and VAR official Jarred Gillett also declined to request a review of the incident.
“I have watched it back and it is a clear penalty,” Gordon stated. “Amrabat pushes me in the back and goes down my Achilles. I didn’t appeal because I knew right away. I informed my teammates that “it was a clear penalty” while I awaited the VAR’s inspection.
I’ve always supported the referee’s decisions because I was raised in this age. I want more authority over officials, although I might keep it [VAR] with offsides.”
