The federal cabinet meeting, where the amendments were supposed to be adopted, has been rescheduled, which has put the government’s efforts to propose the 26th Constitutional Amendment at a standstill even in their first stages.
The government’s failure to obtain the support of Maulana Fazlur Rehman, the leader of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F), has been cited as the reason for the postponement.
Consequently, sources indicate that it is doubtful that the administration will introduce the 26th Constitutional Amendment Bill during today’s parliamentary sessions, which were rescheduled specifically for the purpose of doing so.
Despite the setback, the National Assembly went on with business as usual, with a three-point agenda slated for discussion, according to the sources. The National Assembly and Senate adjourned indefinitely after starting their sessions later than planned.
