In order to overcome a growing tax deficit and aid in the rehabilitation of flood victims, the federal government is getting ready to unveil a mini-budget that will raise at least Rs50 billion.
New taxes on cigarettes and luxury goods are being considered, officials acknowledged.
The proposed mini-budget aims to increase taxes on imported electronics, cigarettes, and luxury cars. On imported goods, a fee equal to the regulatory tariff that was lowered in June might also be reinstituted.
Officials from the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) say that a five percent tax on electronic products is being considered. The final price threshold for this tax is still pending.
