ISLAMABAD: The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) has been instrumental in identifying and punishing persons participating in anti-state campaigns on social media as part of the federal government’s stepped-up crackdown.
According to official data, the NCCIA has filed 356 formal complaints against people in Pakistan so far for allegedly disseminating anti-state propaganda online. Furthermore, 789 inquiries have been made to look into suspects who upload content that disparages governmental institutions.
52 charges against people accused of disseminating anti-army propaganda were filed by the NCCIA during the current Marka-e-Haq campaign, when anti-army posts became more visible on social media.
