KARTARPUR: As three-day ceremonies commemorating Baba Guru Nanak’s 486th death anniversary get underway today, Sikh devotees from all over Pakistan and outside are flocking to Gurdwara Darbar Sahib in Kartarpur.
From September 20 to 22, the pilgrims will observe the death anniversary with solemnities held at the Gurdwara.
Although Indian Sikhs were not permitted to travel to Pakistan this time, thousands of yatris (pilgrims) from all over Pakistan and outside attended the ceremony, which marks the ultimate resting site where Guru Nanak spent his last eighteen years.
Citing ongoing tensions and security concerns between New Delhi and Islamabad, the Indian Ministry of Home Affairs refused permission for Sikh citizens who wanted to travel to Kartarpur for the death anniversary observance to cross the border.
