Residents of the Mohalla Band neighborhood in Gwadar, a port city in Balochistan on the Arabian Sea, are still awaiting official assistance after their homes fell and the Mohalla Banda graveyard was drowned due to flooding.
Habib, a resident of the devastated region, lost both his home and his father’s tomb.
The historic Gwadar City is now populated inward from the coast. Following recent floods, the Mohallah Band portion of the old city is no longer habitable.
Water from drains and garbage has entered homes, impacting many individuals.
. Residents are saving lives in such conditions, and Habib from the Mohalla Band has left his residence to fix his father’s cemetery.
“This water has destroyed my father’s grave, which needs to be restored. My house is also drowned, but we are still alive and will find a solution, whereas the deceased cannot,” the citizen stated tearfully.
“If I don’t repair his grave, then this last memory [of my father] will be completely vanished.”
Habib is one of several inhabitants in the area who have been affected by the devastating rainfall this winter season and are awaiting an adequate response from higher authorities, who have designated the entire port city calamity-hit.
