ISLAMABAD: On Monday, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) leader Hafiz Hamdullah expressed his confusion at the government’s lack of transparency on the provisions of the constitutional reforms, for which it is finding it difficult to obtain the necessary majority in the parliament.
What kind of amendments are these that are being kept a secret from the opposition, allies, ministries, and the cabinet? Speaking on the news show “Pakistan,” Hamdullah stated, “The original draft of the constitutional amendments is not being shared.”
He stated that the administration as a whole was anticipating Maulana’s decision about the government’s efforts to win over JUI-F chairman Maulana Fazlur Rehman to the House.
The government’s planned package of constitutional amendments remains in place despite Maulana Fazl’s refusal to back its plans to raise the retirement age and prolong the tenure of judges.
