An NFL player has sparked outrage by advising female graduates that one of their most significant tasks in life will be “homemaker”.
Harrison Butker, the Kansas City Chiefs’ kicker, also spoke out against abortion and LGBT Pride marches at Benedictine College in Kansas.
His club has yet to respond to the three-time Super Bowl champion’s comments. The NFL described it as a “personal” matter.
A petition calling for the 28-year-old’s termination has received nearly 160,000 signatures.
In his 20-minute speech to women graduates of the Catholic private institution last Saturday, he stated that they had been given “the most diabolical lies”.
“Some of you may go on to lead successful careers in the world,” he added.
