Golden Finish at Milano Cortina
Hilary Knight led the United States to a dramatic victory over Canada in the Olympic women’s ice hockey final, then shared a surprising confession. She said proposing to her girlfriend felt more stressful than playing in the gold medal game.
The U.S. captain helped secure a 2 to 1 overtime win against their longtime rivals. Knight scored the tying goal with just over two minutes remaining in regulation, forcing overtime and setting the stage for a memorable finish at the Milano Cortina Winter Games.
The victory marked a powerful closing chapter for Knight, who is competing in her final Olympics.
A Proposal Before the Final
While preparing for the biggest game of the tournament, Knight had something else on her mind. The day before the championship, she proposed to her partner, Brittany Bowe, and later shared the moment on social media.
Knight admitted she felt more anxious getting down on one knee than stepping onto the ice for the final.
She said the proposal had weighed on her throughout the tournament. With both athletes competing in what is expected to be their last Olympic appearance, Knight decided the timing felt right.
The couple first met during the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics, which made proposing at another Games even more meaningful.
According to Knight, celebrating both a gold medal and an engagement in the same week felt special and fitting for their journey together.
Supporting Bowe’s Final Olympic Race
Knight now turns her attention to cheering for Bowe, who will race in the women’s 1,500 meters at the Milano Speed Skating Stadium. Bowe, a two time Olympic bronze medalist, narrowly missed the podium earlier in the Games, finishing fourth in the 1,000 meters and team pursuit.
Knight plans to be in the stands to support her fiancée as she looks to close her Olympic career with one more medal.
The emotional week blended personal joy with professional triumph, making it one of the most memorable moments of Knight’s career.
