KARACHI: The 5,400-meter Bari La peak in Gilgit-Baltistan was climbed by a group of Pakistani women mountaineers this week, making history as the nation’s first all-female expedition, according to the Alpine Club of Pakistan.
In honor of the Alpine Club’s Golden Jubilee, women from all four provinces, as well as Gilgit-Baltistan, Azad Kashmir, and Islamabad, participated in the excursion.
Under the direction of famous climbers Sajid and Ashraf Sadpara, the group trained and acclimated at the Sadpara Mountaineering Training School before reaching the summit on September 10.
Journalist Mona Khan from Islamabad, Amina Shabbir from Islamabad, Maria Bangash from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Zeba Batool from Gilgit-Baltistan, Bisma Hassan, and Iqra Jillani from Punjab were among the team members, which was led by Bibi Afzoon.
