Butler head coach Thad Matta stated in a release, “Connor has had the opportunity to both contribute and learn alongside one of the best staffs in the NBA following a high-level playing career.” “Our team will find great value in those encounters. He clearly comes from a basketball family that I know well, and I am looking forward to the immediate and long-term effects he will have on our program.”
On Tuesday, Clark shared her thoughts on his new position on Instagram.
McCaffery will now have the opportunity to mentor his impending younger brother, Jack.
Connor spent six collegiate seasons (2017–23) playing for his father, Fran McCaffery, who has been the Iowa coach since 2010.
McCaffery’s 166 games played is second most in Iowa history. He struggled with injuries for most of his time in college, although he was only able to play for six seasons due to a redshirt year and COVID-19 campaign. With the exception of his COVID season, he finished each of his complete seasons in the NCAA tournament. With a point and rebound average of 4.5 and 3.0, he tied Jordan Bohannon for the most wins in program history while playing in 111 games. With 527 assists to 147 turnovers during his career, his assist-to-turnover ratio of 3.59 ranks second in NCAA history.
