Howard Stern has finally addressed retirement rumors, confirming he will continue hosting The Howard Stern Show on SiriusXM for the next three years. The 71-year-old radio icon shared the news live on-air, revealing that he had “figured out a way to have it all.”
Stern explained that his decision allows him more personal time while continuing his legendary radio career. “More free time and continuing to be on the radio. Yes, we are coming back for three years,” he told his listeners.
Even his staff was kept in the dark until the weekend, with Stern saying, “You know where there are no leaks? Because I didn’t know anything until the weekend — whether I was staying or going.”
This announcement comes after months of speculation about Stern’s future, especially with his reported $500 million contract nearing its end. Media reports had suggested SiriusXM might not renew the deal at the same level due to shifts in the industry. Some insiders even claimed that Stern’s team encouraged retirement rumors to create buzz around the show.
Stern admitted he was torn about the decision. While he values his personal time, he still loves being on the radio. “I do like my days off. You know me, I’m never bored. I’m busy every minute,” he shared. He reflected on his career, saying, “I need me time. I’ve never had me time. I’ve been working my whole life. Never really having a personal life. I thought maybe at this point in my life, I could have some free time. It would be sad, but exciting for me.”
