To improve its computational power and more successfully compete with US chipmaker Nvidia, Huawei has introduced a new artificial intelligence infrastructure.
TechCrunch reports that the company unveiled SuperPoD Interconnect, a technology that connects up to 15,000 graphics cards—including Huawei’s Ascend AI chips—into a single network to increase processing capacity, during its Huawei Connect conference in Shenzhen on Thursday.
Nvidia’s NVLink technology, which links AI chips for quick data transfer, looks to be a competitor to this system. By permitting large-scale chip clustering, Huawei’s latest innovation seeks to close the performance gap with Nvidia and provide more computing power for applications like AI deployment and training.
Following China’s decision to prohibit local technological companies from acquiring Nvidia gear, including the RTX Pro 600D servers, the announcement was made.
