Mats Hummels, a defender for Borussia Dortmund, is set to depart after 13 years and 508 games across two stints.
The thirty-five-year-old reached the Champions League final both this year and with Dortmund in 2012–13, but they lost to Real Madrid.
On Thursday, manager Edin Terzic departed from Dortmund after requesting that his contract be terminated.
According to Hummels, the club website: external “Playing at BVB for such a long time and being a part of the transformation from 13th position in January 2008 to what Borussia Dortmund is now was an enormous honor and pleasure for me.
“This club and its fans are something very special – and for me even more than that.”
Hummels came to Dortmund on loan from Bayern in 2008 and signed a permanent deal the following year.
He won the German Cup as well as several Bundesliga championships.
After returning to Dortmund in 2019, he won the German Cup once more before rejoining Bayern in 2016.
In 2014, Hummels and Germany won the World Cup as well.
