According to a statement released on Saturday, the federal cabinet authorized the creation of an inquiry panel into the accusations made by the judges of the Islamabad High Court (IHC) and named Tassaduq Hussain Jillani, a former chief justice of Pakistan, as the commission’s chairman.
The panel, which will be led exclusively by the former CJP Jillani, will look into the accusations made by the justices in a letter. The cabinet members subsequently approved the commission’s terms of reference (ToRs).
According to reports cited by Geo News, the probe commission would deliver its report in 60 days.
They claimed that when the letter’s subject came up for consideration during the cabinet meeting, bureaucratic officials and other unimportant people were asked to leave the room.
The cabinet members granted the PM the authority to choose the head of the commission and pledged their unwavering support for the candidate he chooses.
The federal cabinet also rejected the accusations made by the judges in their letter regarding executive meddling in judicial matters, calling them “inappropriate” in an official statement released after the meeting.
The notion of separation of powers among state institutions is enunciated in the Constitution, as all cabinet members agreed.
The prime minister declared his support for the separation of powers under the constitution and the independence of the judiciary on this particular occasion.
He gave the cabinet members his word regarding his meeting and consultation with the CJP subsequent to the letter.
