Aamer Farooq, the Chief Justice of the Islamabad High Court (IHC), has assured the defense attorney that he will schedule the hearing for the bail requests of vice chairman Shah Mahmood Qureshi and founder Imran Khan in the £190 million NCA scam case a day after tomorrow, May 8.
Chief Justice Aamer Farooq and Justice Miangul Hasan Aurangzeb, who make up the IHC’s two-member bench, heard appeals on Monday about the conviction of both PTI politicians in the cipher case.
On January 30 of this year, the former foreign minister and prime minister were found guilty in the aforementioned matter.
Defense attorney Latif Khosa informed the IHC chief judge at the beginning of the session that the bail petition hearing in the NCA scandal case was still ongoing.
In response, CJ Farooq stated that he would schedule the hearing for May 8 because the regular’s prior cause list had been stopped due to his illness. Despite his ill health, he continued, he conducted the hearing today because of the significance of the cipher case.
Hamid Ali Shah, the Federal Investigation Agency’s (FIA) prosecutor, also attended the court. Even if they are “declassified,” he informed the high court bench that all cipher telegrams bearing a “classified stamp” are destroyed after six months.
