How Can Football Lawmakers Fix Corner Kick Chaos in the Premier League? Corner kicks in the Premier League have turned into wrestling matches. Players push, grab, and block each other before the ball even drops. Goals from set pieces are rising, but so is frustration. Managers, referees, and fans now question whether football’s lawmakers need to step in. Growing Frustration Over Grappling at Corners Recent matches have highlighted the issue. During a clash between Everton and Manchester United, several Everton players crowded goalkeeper Senne Lammens. Leny Yoro ended up inside the net after being pushed, while Harry Maguire also became involved in the chaos. Everton manager David Moyes criticized referees for failing to act. He argued officials avoid making tough calls in crowded penalty areas. Other coaches share similar concerns. Arsenal have earned a reputation for mastering blocking tactics at corners. Moyes even described them as the best at using these so called dark arts, though he admitted they do it effectively. In Arsenal’s recent game against Chelsea, players visibly held opponents during set pieces. Chelsea conceded twice from corners in that 2 to 1 defeat. Is the Premier League Threshold Too High? Statistics show the trend clearly. Around 27 percent of goals in the Premier League this season have come from set pieces. That is higher than Serie A, Bundesliga, La Liga, and Ligue 1. The league believes its foul threshold sits at the right level. Before the season began, coaches, captains, referees, and pundits supported the current approach. Officials only punish clear and obvious holding, sometimes with VAR support. Still, many fans see players grabbing shirts while VAR checks tight offsides. That contrast fuels anger online. Possible Law Changes on the Table Some former officials suggest rule adjustments. One idea would allow referees to award penalties once they blow the whistle for a corner, even if the ball has not yet entered play. This change could stop early grappling. Another proposal requires attackers to start outside the six yard box before the kick. That would reduce crowding around the goalkeeper and create more space. So far, International Football Association Board has not prioritized this issue in its recent meetings. Lawmakers may view the problem as part of the natural evolution of tactics rather than a crisis. Who Should Take Responsibility? Coaches design these routines. Players execute them. Referees enforce the rules. Each group plays a role. However, as tactics grow more aggressive, enforcement becomes harder. Sixteen players can squeeze into a small area during a single corner. Referees must track multiple holds at once. That task tests even experienced officials. If the game’s image continues to suffer, lawmakers may have little choice but to act. Until then, corner kick chaos looks set to remain part of the Premier League story.

Film Rebirth and Cutting-Edge DigitalFilmed for IMAXHDR by Barco

Excitement is building with new films from some of the most successful directors ever, including Spielberg, Nolan, and Villeneuve. The end of 2025 has already warmed audiences up with strong performances from Wicked For Good, Zootopia/Zootropolis, and Avatar: Fire and Ash. In 2026, audiences will also get a Star Wars film, an Avengers movie, a Spider-Man film, and a Supergirl film.

Other highlights include a Hunger Games movie, a new Tom Cruise project, and Michael, the long-awaited biopic of a major superstar. Greta Gerwig, known for the billion-dollar Barbie, will direct another highly anticipated film next year.

Film Rebirth and Cutting-Edge Digital

Movie fans who enjoy technical innovation will be thrilled by the rise of premium and exclusive formats. IMAX continues to dominate with its massive screens and sound, in both digital and film-based versions. Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey will be the first film shot entirely on IMAX 1570 film stock, using the full 1.43:1 IMAX ratio. The new IMAX cameras are lighter, quieter, and more versatile than ever.

VistaVision is also making a comeback. Four films slated for 2026 will use VistaVision:

  • Wuthering Heights – Feb 13, starring Margot Robbie, directed by Emerald Fennel
  • Digger – Oct 2, starring Tom Cruise, directed by Alejandro G. Iñárritu
  • Release – Oct 23, starring Jake Gyllenhaal, directed by M. Night Shyamalan
  • Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew – Nov 26, starring Emma Mackey and Daniel Craig, directed by Greta Gerwig

Some of these films may also receive IMAX 1570 releases, filling the full 1.43:1 screen in premium theaters.

Filmed for IMAX

Several films in 2026 will include sequences formatted for IMAX 1.90:1 screens. A few will expand to the full 1.43:1 frame, which can only be seen in IMAX theaters with suitable projectors. Notable releases include:

  • The Bride! – Mar 6, starring Jessie Buckley, directed by Maggie Gyllenhaal
  • Project Hail Mary – Mar 20, starring Ryan Gosling, directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller
  • Mandalorian & Grogu – May 22, starring Pedro Pascal, directed by Jon Favreau
  • The Odyssey – Jul 17, starring Matt Damon, directed by Christopher Nolan
  • Dune: Part III – Dec 18, starring Timothée Chalamet, directed by Denis Villeneuve

HDR by Barco

HDR by Barco is the newest premium format, using Lightsteering projectors that reach up to 300 nits of brightness. As with Dolby Cinema, films must be specially graded for the format. Barco has already announced its slate for the first half of 2026:

  • 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple – Jan 16, directed by Danny Boyle
  • Goat – Feb 13, starring Caleb McLaughlin and Stephen Curry, directed by Tyree Dillihay
  • Wuthering Heights – Feb 13, starring Margot Robbie, directed by Emerald Fennel
  • Scream 7 – Feb 27, starring Neve Campbell and Isabel May, directed by Kevin Williamson
  • The Bride! – Mar 6, starring Jessie Buckley, directed by Maggie Gyllenhaal
  • Project Hail Mary – Mar 20, starring Ryan Gosling, directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller
  • The Mummy – Apr 17, starring Jack Reynor and Laia Costa, directed by Lee Cronin
  • Michael – Apr 24, starring Jaafar Jackson, directed by Antoine Fuqua
  • Mortal Kombat II – May 8, starring Karl Urban and Adeline Rudolph, directed by Simon McQuoid
  • Animal Friends – Jun 5, starring Ryan Reynolds and Jason Momoa, directed by Peter Atencio
  • Masters of the Universe – Jun 5, starring Nicholas Galitzine and Jared Leto, directed by Travis Knight
  • Supergirl – Jun 26, starring Milly Alcock, directed by Craig Gillespie

2026 promises to be a year that combines blockbuster storytelling with innovative cinema technology, making theaters the ultimate place to experience movies.
