New cases against Imran Khan will be brought in the next few days, according to adviser to the prime minister on political and public affairs Rana Sanaullah. This comes two days after the founder of the jailed Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) received reprieve in the cipher case.
The former security chief, Sanaullah, was asked about the former prime minister’s anticipation of relief and release in other instances based on the “benefit of the doubt” following the Islamabad High Court’s decision in the cipher case while speaking on the Geo News show “Capital Talk.”
The senior leader of the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) responded sharply, saying that the PTI founder’s release was not contingent on the outcome of his iddat case. He acknowledged that Pakistani law would grant an accused person the benefit of the doubt.
“concerns can arise from seemingly easy situations. Previously, we witnessed phrases follow one another without any concerns being raised. Like we saw in the cipher issue, there will probably be doubts in the iddat situation as well,” the politician remarked.
He believed that although the iddat matter was being referred to as a political leader’s “personal affair,” public figures have no private lives. According to the former interior minister, Khan was put forward in cases where there were admissions of guilt.
In response to a follow-up inquiry about fresh cases, Sanaullah said that more cases would be filed shortly. Bringing up the former prime minister’s contentious X post, he hinted that a complaint would be made.
