KARACHI: Senior leader of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) Mustafa Kamal has requested an unconditional apology for comments he made last month at a news conference criticizing the judiciary.
In an affidavit filed with the Karachi Registry of the Supreme Court, MNA Kamal stated that he regarded “all the judges, in particular, the judges of the superior courts of Pakistan in the highest respect and esteem”.
The top MQM-P leader stated that he could not fathom undermining the court’s or its judges’ authority or reputation.
The politician made the statement one day before he was scheduled to appear in court for contempt of court prosecution following his outburst against the judiciary in response to a letter from justices of the Islamabad High Court (IHC) highlighting the intelligence agency’s interference in judicial matters.
