A pregnant lady in her 30s was hit by a car on Sunday while she was crossing the street in the village of Bamber Bridge, according to Lancashire Police.
Her son was born while she was hospitalized, but she passed very soon after.
The mother’s condition is critical and she is still in the hospital.
Three individuals, a 40-year-old male from Blackburn, a 19-year-old man from Bolton, and a 17-year-old girl from Lostock Hall, have been taken into custody on allegations of aiding an offender and trying to sway the legal system.
They remain under arrest.
In relation to the incident, a 53-year-old man and two boys, ages 15 and 17, were also taken into custody; they have since been released on bond while investigations continue.
“This is an absolutely appalling incident that has resulted in the death of a little baby and has left his mother very poorly in the hospital,” stated Detective Chief Inspector Jill Riley. “My thoughts are with their loved ones.”
