Australians who were evacuated from New Caledonia after being stranded for more than a week due to violent protests have expressed relief at returning home.
Two Royal Australian Air Force jets landed in Brisbane on Tuesday night, transporting 108 Australians and other visitors stuck due to the shutdown of the French Pacific territory’s international airport.
Meanwhile, the New Zealand military flew 48 people to Auckland.
France has stated that it plans to evacuate approximately 500 individuals on military aircraft beginning on Wednesday.
French President Emmanuel Macron is on his way to the area, which has experienced the most severe upheaval in decades, and will arrive on Thursday.
To establish a dialogue mission, he will be accompanied by other officials, such as the ministers of the nation’s armed forces and interior.
