Europe is once again plagued by the shadow of cruel policies. But this time, the poisonous far-right forces are gaining ground throughout the region instead of communism or the terrible red revolution.
Regretfully, they have discovered a number of allies among established right-wing centrist parties that shied away from meaningful engagement with them in the past out of concern that they would lose support.
Many experts view Ursula Gertrud von der Leyen’s and other European leaders’ purported appeasement of these far-right elements as a major capitulation, which has horrified them. Unlike Germany’s consensus-seeking former chancellor Angela Merkel, Leyen is reportedly not afraid to split opinion in order to push through ideas that she thinks are right.However, a lot of people are questioning her close relationship with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, whose party is viewed by some as the fascists’ heir. The leader of the Brothers of Italy, Meloni, has previously stated that her party is free of “nostalgic fascists, racists, or anti-Semites,” although some disagree with this claim. They assert that several of the party’s leaders have less than perfect backgrounds.
