The first no-hitter of the 2024 season also happens to be the first victory for the Houston Astros this season.
In order to throw his first career no-hitter, Ronel Blanco got Toronto Blue Jays All-Star Vladimir Guerrero to ground out to second base. The 105-pitch masterpiece helped the team win 10-0.
The two walks that Blanco allowed, both to George Springer, who walked twice before Guerrero’s groundout ended the no-hitter, were the only blemishes on the box score. In addition, he struck out seven Blue Jays.
Blanco, a 22-year-old product of Santiago, Dominican Republic, has been a member of the Astros minor league team since 2016. When he finally made it to the majors in 2022, it wasn’t a quick process.
