Denmark’s King Frederik X acceded to the throne on Sunday after his mother Queen Margrethe abdicated.
Later, during his coronation address, King Frederik broke down in tears and gave a heartfelt homage to his mother.

“Her Majesty Queen Margrethe II has ruled Denmark for 52 years,” he declared. She has used our common past as an outlet to track the times for fifty years. She was a remarkable regent who will always be remembered.
The Danish royal family posted a picture of King Frederik from the balcony along with a link to his speech on Instagram.
“My mother succeeded like few others in becoming one with her country,” the King said to the assembly.
“My goal is to rule as a uniting monarch in the future… I take on this job with honor, pride, and a great deal of happiness.
“It’s a deed I will do my best and carry through the confidence I encounter,” he continued. I will require all the help I can receive from my cherished spouse, my family, you, and the force that exists beyond our two walls. I know that I am not standing alone as I look to the future.
