LAHORE: According to officials cited by The News on Friday, flooding affected vast sections of the nation, including parts of Lahore, after a technical problem at the Ravi headworks in India caused a surge of water downstream that made the situation in low-lying areas worse.
Even more concerning is the fact that India neglected to alert authorities to the Madhopur Headworks’ technical problem or to inform Pakistan about the Ravi River flooding.
The Indus Water Commissioner of Pakistan neglected to discuss the pressing issue with India in light of this emergency scenario, which would have ensured that similar incidents are controlled and future preventive measures are put in place.
