ISLAMABAD: If the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) had been in opposition, the country would have gone to a new election, party leader Faisal Karim Kundi said on Friday.
The PPP, like other political parties in the aftermath of the February 8 general elections, is attempting to boost its number of seats in national and provincial assemblies by recruiting successful independent candidates.
“If we had opted for opposition [benches], this country would have gone to another election,” the politician remarked during a press conference in Islamabad.
The politician also spoke on his party’s quest for the coveted posts of Senate chairman and National Assembly speaker, as well as their plan to support the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) after the elections in establishing the alliance.
Kundi said his party will remain in Parliament to provide constructive criticism of the government’s policies.
The PPP leader was also joined by another veteran politician Nadeem Afzal Chan, who stated that individuals who used harsh words against one another are banding together for their own benefit.
Chan, in response to the demonstrations sparked by alleged “rigging,” stated that the PPP was using the democratic means to combat the “theft” that occurred during the elections.
According to the lawmaker, post-election selection would make stability a faraway reality.
He asked all political parties to work together and move the country forward.
