Turkey reportedly stopped trading with Israel on Thursday, marking the most recent step in the country’s protests against the Gaza War.
Members of the Israeli government are already responding to the possible consequences even though President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s administration in Turkey has not yet made the announcement officially. According to News, Israel and Turkey exchanged commodities worth over $6.8 billion in 2023, with Turkish exports accounting for the majority of the total.
Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz wrote on News, the platform that was once known as Twitter, that “Erdogan is breaking agreements by blocking ports for Israeli imports and exports.”
“This is the behavior of a dictator who tramples the interests of the Turkish people and business community, while ignoring international trade agreements,” he stated.
