In their motions for a new trial in the E. Jean Carroll case, the former president Trump’s attorneys argued on Tuesday night that the court had restricted his testimony during the trial last month and that his remarks regarding her accusations were intended to “defend his reputation, protect his family, and defend his Presidency.”
Tuesday night, Trump’s legal team submitted two motions: one requested a new trial and one asked for a judgment in Trump’s favor.

After Trump refuted claims that he had sexually assaulted E. Jean Carroll in the 1990s, a federal jury determined last month that he was required to pay her more than $83 million in damages. Trump was ordered by the jury to pay $18.3 million in compensatory damages.
