RAWALPINDI: An anti-terrorism court on Saturday granted bail to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan and party senior leader Shah Mahmood Qureshi in 12 distinct May 9 rioting cases.
Judge Malik Ijaz Asif granted the two politicians bail.
Earlier today, the court granted bail and ordered the release of Awami Mulsim League (AML) head Sheikh Rashid Ahmed from the same case.
Shiraz Ahmed Ranjha, a PTI lawyer, represented Khan and Qureshi in court, and the judge denied the prosecution’s plea to continue the case on another day.
The decision was made during the case’s hearing on February 6.The court summons Khan, Qureshi, and the AML chief to appear earlier this week, following instructions issued during a hearing on February 3.
On December 27, Qureshi was arrested from Adiala jail in a General Headquarters (GHQ) attack case, although he was then charged in 12 other cases relating to the violent May 9 rallies, while Khan was arrested in the same case on January 9.
