A video purporting to show a drone hitting a Ukrainian tank in a spectacular explosion began making the rounds on pro-war Russian social media sites in June 2023.
However, not everything in the conflict between Russia and Ukraine is as it seems.
Then came Ukrainian film of a joyful soldier yelling, “They’ve hit my wooden tank!” as he pointed to the flaming wreckage.
The aforementioned tank seems to be a plywood dummy that the Ukrainian military are using to trick the Russians.
From tiny radars and grenade launchers to jeeps, vehicles, tanks, and real soldiers, nearly anything seen on the front line could be a fake.
These imitations can be inflatable, flat-pack, two-dimensional, or use a unique manner to reflect radio signals to give the impression that a tank is there on radar.
