Fresh Military Escalation Raises Regional Tensions
Iran launched a new wave of attacks on US military bases in several Gulf countries, while the United States responded with overnight airstrikes on multiple locations across Iran. The latest military action marks another sharp rise in tensions as diplomatic efforts to end the conflict remain at a standstill.
Iran said it targeted US military facilities in Jordan, Kuwait, and Bahrain. Officials described the attacks as part of their response to continued American military operations in the region.
At the same time, the US military carried out a six hour campaign of strikes against several Iranian sites. According to US Central Command, the operation focused on command centres, air defence systems, and coastal surveillance facilities. American officials said the strikes aimed to reduce Iran’s ability to threaten commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.
Trump Warns Iran to Return to Negotiations
US President Donald Trump warned that Iran must return to negotiations or face further military action. He also repeated earlier threats to target Iran’s energy infrastructure if diplomatic efforts continue to fail.
Iran rejected the warning. Senior Iranian official Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf said the country had no reason to accept an agreement that did not protect its national interests. He also stressed that Iran’s security depends on maintaining its position in the Strait of Hormuz.
Airstrikes Hit Multiple Iranian Locations
The latest US attacks struck military sites in Bandar Abbas, Greater Tunb Island, and other strategic areas. Iranian state media reported explosions in several cities, including Tehran, where air defence systems were activated.
Iranian officials also said a children’s cancer treatment centre in Ahvaz was evacuated after nearby strikes raised safety concerns. Videos circulating online showed explosions in Chabahar, Ahvaz, and Bandar Abbas as fighting intensified.
Gulf States Respond to Iranian Attacks
Several Gulf countries reported Iranian attacks following the latest US strikes. Kuwait said its military intercepted drones before they reached their targets. Bahrain urged residents to stay calm and move to the nearest safe location if necessary.
Iran also claimed it targeted US communication systems and fuel storage facilities in Jordan during its latest military operation.
Strait of Hormuz Remains Closed
The Strait of Hormuz remains closed after Iran blocked the strategic waterway following earlier US and Israeli military operations. The route plays a vital role in global oil shipments, and its closure continues to increase concerns about international energy supplies.
Meanwhile, the United States announced it had restored a blockade on Iranian ports. The restriction had previously been lifted under a memorandum of understanding signed by both countries last month. With negotiations still stalled, uncertainty over the conflict continues to grow.
