Iran’s supreme leader has presided over a funeral for the country’s late president, foreign minister, and others who died in a helicopter accident on Sunday.
Ayatollah Ali Khamenei delivered prayers at Tehran University, where caskets containing the deceased were covered in Iranian flags.
President Ebrahim Raisi, Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, and six others were killed in a helicopter crash near the Azerbaijani border.
Authorities had issued a warning against anti-funeral procession rallies and online insults.
“Oh Allah, we didn’t see anything but good from him,” Ayatollah Khamenei remarked during the traditional Arabic prayer for the dead.
Mohammad Mokhber, Iran’s acting president, stood close and visibly wept during the event.
Iran’s supreme leader led prayers at Raisi’s funeral.
