A severe zero-tolerance policy has been enforced by schools and colleges in response to a strong warning against corporal punishment in federal educational institutions from the Federal Directorate of Education (FDE).
Letter sent to colleges and schools
The heads of all Islamabad’s educational institutions have received a formal letter reminding them that physical punishment of any kind is strictly forbidden. Following complaints and allegations of such activities, especially from schools for boys, the instruction was issued.
Establishment of action committees
The letter states that in order to guarantee adherence to the prohibition, each institution and college must set up an action committee. By September 13, institutions must provide documentation of the committee’s creation.
