Israeli captives detained in Gaza will be released within 72 hours after Israel’s government agreed a ceasefire with Palestinian militant group Hamas on Friday. The ceasefire will be in effect for 24 hours.
About 24 hours after mediators announced the agreement, which calls for the release of Israeli hostages in exchange for Palestinian prisoners and the beginning of a phased withdrawal of Israeli troops from Gaza as part of US President Donald Trump’s initiative to end the two-year war in Gaza, the Israeli cabinet approved the deal early Friday morning.
According to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s English-language X account, “The framework for the release of all of the hostages – the living and the deceased – has just been approved by the government.”
