Israeli forces have reportedly approached Gaza City’s center as Hamas fighters reassemble in anticipation of fierce street-to-street combat.
Since Israel began its ground offensive last week, thousands of Palestinians have been forced to leave the city.
Israel says its goal is to “eliminate terrorists” and free its 48 hostages, 20 of whom are believed to be alive, and refers to the city as the “last stronghold” of Hamas.
Video of an Israeli tank at Hamid Junction, around 1.5 km (0.9 miles) from the main al-Shifa hospital, has been confirmed by the BBC. According to reports, Israeli armored vehicles were also spotted near the major UN facility in southern Gaza City, which is roughly 700 meters (2297 feet) from the city center.
