In a nod to Motorhead’s biggest song, Hetfield shared a photo of himself sporting a fresh Aces of Spades tattoo on his right middle finger on Metallica’s Instagram account.
The band’s 11 million fans were informed by the vocalist and guitarist that “the tattoo is a salute to my friend and inspiration Mr. Lemmy Kilmister,” adding that “there would be NO Metallica without him.”
He continued, saying, “Black ink combined with a small amount of his cremated remains that were so kindly provided to me.” He can thus still fly the bird in the world today.
Lemmy, the frontman of the British rock band Motorhead, was actually Ian Kilmister. After forming in the 1970s, the group put out more than 20 albums, featuring singles like Ace of Spades, Iron Fist, and Overkill.
