Jamie Dornan recently discussed his experiences receiving backlash for his R-rated Fifty Shades of Grey.
In a 2015 interview with BBC’s Desert Island Discs, the 41-year-old actor talked about how he and his spouse, Amelia Warner, were forced to flee following the release of Fifty Shades of Grey.
In the film, which is based on the daring novel by E.L. James, the relationship between business magnate Christian Grey (played by Dornan) and recent college graduate Anastasia Ana Steele (played by Dakota Johnson) is used to explore the concept of BDSM.
The actor disclosed that at the remote country estate of film director Sam Taylor-Johnson and her actor husband Aaron, he and Amelia sought exile.
Jamie said, “They gave us their place in the country, and we kind of hid there and just closed ourselves from the world for a while before sort of coming out the other side.”
The Belfast, however, added, “It [the film] made so much money,” acknowledging the film’s success. It was peculiar because you were thinking, “There’s going to be more of that damnation to come, but there’s also some ridicule here, so I’m contractually doing two more of them.”
