Ahead of a scheduled sit-in in Islamabad, Jamaat-e-Islami has accused the authorities of carrying out a harsh crackdown on its members in a number of towns.
The party says that police have targeted its leaders and activists in an attempt to disrupt the rally. The party is scheduled to organize a three-day protest against rising prices beginning on July 26.
There have been multiple instances of police raids, arrests, and mistreatment of women, according to Jamaat-e-Islami.
Key party figures’ homes were raided, according to Secretary General Ameer-ul-Azeem, including Amir Ziauddin Ansari of Jamaat-e-Islami Lahore.
Hassan Abdal and Narowal
The party claims that Tehsil Amir Altaf Hussain from Hasan Abdal, former District Amir Anwar Haq Butt from Narowal, and other officials have been taken into custody. Ten laborers were allegedly detained in Khairpur Tamiwali in Bahawalpur, while comparable incidents involving raids on the residences of local leaders were documented in Sahiwal.
Gujranwala
Furqan Aziz Butt, a candidate for Jamaat-e-Islami, was not there when the police surrounded his home in Gujranwala. Many workers fled Wahari after seven participants who were getting ready for the sit-in were taken into custody.
Sambarial
Deputy District Amir Muhammad Owais Ghaman and Mian Imran Akhtar, who had just returned from Umrah, were apprehended in Sambarial. The Jamaat-e-Islami of Sargodha said that there had been an arrests during a raid on their central office.
