Known for being James Cameron’s longtime producer, the film industry heavyweight is acknowledged for having contributed to three of the top four highest-grossing films ever made.
On Saturday, his family made his passing public. The reason of death was not stated.
Sir Peter Jackson, the filmmaker of The Lord of the Rings, and his spouse Fran Walsh, whose Weta FX firm handled the visual effects department for both Avatar movies, led the producer tributes.
They released a statement saying, “Weta FX as a whole says we are devastated by the loss of Jon Landau.”
In addition to being a highly respected member of the film industry, Jon was also a beloved friend and partner.”
According to their statement, Mr. Landau worked on projects with “unparalleled passion” and his influence “will continue to inspire for years to come”.
The statement read, “Our deepest condolences are with Jim (Cameron) and the Lightstorm Entertainment team, as well as Jon’s family and loved ones.”
Over the course of a multi-decade career that started in the 1980s, Mr. Landau advanced from the position of production manager to co-producer.
Hits include Honey, I Shrunk the Kids (1989) and Dick Tracy (1990), starring Madonna and Al Pacino, were co-produced by him.
