This year’s Grammy Awards, which feature a performance by cultural icon Joni Mitchell, appear to be promising for female performers as they lead the top three categories.

The 80-year-old singer-songwriter is vying for best folk album. She is most renowned for her famous song Big Yellow Taxi.

The Canadian celebrity has inspired musicians like Taylor Swift, Bob Dylan, and Prince. She has already earned nine Grammys and a lifetime achievement award.

Mitchell had to relearn how to walk, talk, and play the guitar in 2015 due to a brain aneurysm that almost killed him.

Her first headline performance in two decades was captured on the album Joni Mitchell At Newport [Live], for which she was nominated.

She performed with musicians including Annie Lennox, Marcus Mumford, and Brandi Carlile during her three-hour extravaganza.
Despite being one of the most significant female recording artists of the 20th century, Mitchell has stated in the past that she thinks sexism in the music business prevented her work from receiving the respect it deserved in the 1970s.

The 66th Grammy Awards will also feature performances by Billie Eilish, Dua Lipa, Burna Boy, Travis Scott, and Olivia Rodrigo.

Additionally, Irish rock group U2 will perform remotely from Sphere in Las Vegas.

With nine nominations, US singer-songwriter SZA is in first place. Victoria Monet has seven, and Taylor Swift, Billie Eilish, and Olivia Rodrigo are each up for six awards.

Swift is the first artist to have seven songs nominated for Song of the Year, breaking a Grammy record with her nomination for Anti Hero.

With the exception of Jon Batiste, all three nominees for album, record, and song of the year are female, indicating a strong year for female musicians.

Comedian Trevor Noah will serve as the host of Sunday, February 4th’s Grammy Awards in Los Angeles.
