Senior Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader Qamar Zaman Kaira called the media allegations on his party’s potential appointment to the Treasury benches “baseless” and disputed them on Wednesday.
Following Ahsan Iqbal, Federal Minister for Planning,’s discussions with Kaira and Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfaraz Bugti, rumors began to circulate that the PPP will enter the administration.
According to the sources, the purpose of the talks held by the head of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) was to court the PPP to become a member of the federal cabinet.
Speaking with News, Kaira stated that instead of sitting on the Treasury benches, he met with the planning minister to talk about the development plans for his district.
“I didn’t talk to Ahsan Iqbal about becoming a government official,” he stated.
However, sources told The News that following the budget, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif chose to increase the size of the federal cabinet and extended an official invitation to the PPP to join the government.
The report, which was released on Wednesday, states that the government will consist of major political figures from the PML-N and its affiliated parties.
According to the journal, the prime minister has begun to work on adding new cabinet members and has extended an invitation to the PPP to join the government once more. Discussions are currently taking place in this respect.
